5817 Compton Road Multiplex

← All Projects

5817 Compton Road is an infill rental development on a flat, south-facing quarter-acre lot in central Port Alberni. The two-storey, 4,032 sq. ft. building holds four strata-titled two-bedroom homes and two self-contained one-bedroom suites, adding six purpose-built rental units to a market that has been below healthy vacancy since 2016.

TrueHeart is the contractor and prime contractor under a CCDC 2 stipulated-price contract, responsible for on-site construction, installation, trade coordination and completion. Factory-made components, built to the CSA A277 standard, are produced while site preparation and foundations go ahead, then assembled on site. Running factory and site work in parallel shortens the on-site program and reduces the owner’s exposure to weather and labour shortages.

The all-electric building is designed to BC Energy Step Code 4 and Zero Carbon Step Code EL4, with heat pumps, heat-recovery ventilation and a 1.5 ACH @ 50 Pa airtightness target. Its modelled energy use is about 44% lower than a typical new building. The fourplex is permitted under existing zoning, with construction scheduled to start in October 2026 and completion targeted for May 2027.
